MSC play opens with loss for Lady Lions

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — After changing the weekend's schedule due to weather and enduring a lightning delay the (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion softball team fell to the No. 7 University of the Cumberlands Patriots 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference opener.

A walk in the first inning put the first Freed-Hardeman (5-7, 0-1 MSC) baserunner on before Christa Warren connected for the first hit for the Lady Lions coming to lead off the third inning. A sacrifice bunt put Warren into scoring position, but the Patriots were able to escape unscathed.

The next chance came after the Lady Lions put runners on second and third with one out in the top of the fourth, but Cumberlands (14-6, 1-0 MSC) managed to tightrope out of danger. FHU again put a runner 60 feet away in the seventh inning, but UC got the third out to collect the win.

FHU had two hits in the loss: one from Brinley Cousar and one from Christa Warren.

Kylee Brown (4-4) was saddled with the loss despite striking out four batters.
