Two one-run game losses for FHU

GULF SHORES, Ala. — The (RV) Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions fought until the final out in both ends of a doubleheader in the Gulf Shores Invitational. FHU first fell to the Eagles of Texas A&M Texarkana 5-4 in eight innings before dropping game two 7-6 against the Thomas (Ga.) University Night Hawks.

Game 1 (8 inn.)
Texas A&M Texarkana - 5
Freed-Hardeman - 4

The Lady Lions (5-5) tightroped around danger for a majority of the game, with the Eagles knocking 11 hits, but leaving seven runners stranded in the game.

Freed-Hardeman's patience at the plate showed with FHU drawing eight walks against the TAMUT (17-4) pitchers. Down by three runs in the bottom of the seventh, one of those walks helped to load the bases for Chloe Carter to tie the game with a three-run triple with no outs. A line drive, a popout, and a groundout kept the score knotted at 4-4 before the Eagles scored the goahead run in the top of the eighth.

FHU had five hits in the game with Karli Quillin connecting for two of those.

Kylee Brown (4-3) pitched all eight innings for the Lady Lions, striking out four Eagles while surrendering one walk.
