Doubles win leads to quarterfinal victory

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The fourth-seeded Freed-Hardeman University Lions knew they would be in a tough battle against the No. 3 seed Bethel University Wildcats in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Championship. With both doubles pairs getting victories, FHU got the 4-3 win to advance to the semifinals.

The No. 1 court featured a 7-6(4) victory for the #31 pair of Merlin Bolema/Maxime Guyon before the Wildcats tied it with a 6-3 victory over Carlos Garcia/Nolan Laduree. Pablo Poleo/Quentin Ferron secured the doubles point for the Lions (9-10) with a 6-3 victory on court two. 

Moving up to the No. 1 singles court Maxime Guyon claimed a three-set victory over his #74 Wildcat (8-9) opponent by coming back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Merlin Bolema fell after a close 7-6(3), 6-3 match. Carlos Garcia fell short despite a valiant comeback 6-1, 7-6(5) while Pablo Poleo fell 6-1, 6-2. Quentin Ferron claimed victory on the No. 3 court with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 match win before Nolan Laduree clinched the victory with a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 win.
