BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Cumberland's (Tenn.) Michael Nwoye and Freed-Hardeman's (Tenn.) Phil Horton are the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

Pinnacle Financial Partners sponsors the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Award program. Pinnacle Financial Partners was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with banks in eight states in the southeast United States.

MSC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
Phil Horton – Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) – Gr. – Forward – Somerville, Tenn.

• Horton averaged 10 rebounds and two steals per game in road wins at Campbellsville (Ky.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) last week.
• He grabbed seven defensive rebounds and two steals in each win.
• Horton helped the Lions hold the Tigers and Blue Raiders to an average of 54 points per game during the week.
• He ranks fifth in the MSC in rebounding per game (6.3), including third in the conference in defensive rebounds per game (4.8).
• Horton earns the first weekly honor of the season.

 
MSC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week
Michael Nwoye – Cumberland (Tenn.) – Fr. – Forward– Antioch, Tenn.

• Nwoye averaged 23.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in two games last week against nationally-ranked teams.
• He scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a loss at No. 8-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.).
• Nwoye closed the week with 16 points and five rebounds at No. 18-ranked Georgetown.
• He shot 66.7 percent (18-of-27) from the floor during the week.
• Nwoye is ninth in the MSC, averaging 13.1 points per game and leads the conference in rebounding (9.2 per outing).
• Nwoye earns his first weekly honor of the season.
