Lady Lions split rainy midweek

HENDERSON — Despite a weather delay at the end of the first game, the (RV) Freed-Hardeman Univesrity Lady Lions and the (RV) University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks completed a doubleheader Tuesday night. The Lady Lions walked off game one for a 4-3 victory before falling 10-2 in a five-inning second game.

After two and a half scoreless innings, the Lady Lions (5-7) scored the first run of the day on a sacrifice fly before adding two more runs in a four-hit fifth inning.

Tennessee Southern (14-3) kept the game going with a three-run top of the seventh inning to force FHU to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Lions loaded the bases for Reagan Locke's sacrifice fly game-winner.

Chloe Carter and Myleah Hardy tallied two singles in the victory.

Hannah Jones (3-1) tossed a complete game where she stuck out four Firehawks.


Scoring Summary

Bottom 3
Annalee Qualls led off the inning with a single before taking advantage of an error to move her to third base. Karli Quillin lifted a sacrifice fly to plate the unearned run.

Bottom 5
A leadoff double from Christa Warren opened up a four-hit inning for the Lady Lions. Warren would tap home on Chloe Carter's double before Carter herself would score on Myleah Hardy's RBI single.

Top 7
A leadoff walk sparked a three-run inning that was highlight by a game-tying two-run single.

After an hour and a half of weather delay, Carter and Hardy connected for back-to-back singles before Hannah Jones' hit-by-pitch loaded the bases. Reagan Lock sacrificed her at-bat to drive in Carter as the game-winner.

The guests put up two five-run innings to hand the Lady Lions (5-8) the loss in game two. After a five-run second inning from the opposition, Christa Warren and Karli Quillin put two FHU runs on the board.

UT Southern (15-3) loaded the bases a majority of the fifth inning, helping them score five runs before shutting down the Lady Lions and claiming victory.

Karli Quillin had two of the Lady Lions' five base hits while Reagan Locke drove in an RBI.

Locke (0-2) was charged with the loss after the start.

Top 2
Three straight singles loaded the bases with Firehawks before a triple cleared the bases. Two more singles capped a five-run six-hit frame.

Bottom 3
Christa Warren and Lana Rowland led off the inning with back-to-back singles before a fielder's choice put runners on the corners. Karli Quillin took off to steal second with an errant throw down to second allowing Warren to score. Reagan Locke singled home Quillin to cut into the UTS lead.

Top 5
The Firehawks had a solo homer followed by four more runs including a pair of bases-loaded walks.

The lady Lions begin Mid-South Conference play with a trip to Lebanon, Tennessee, where they face the (RV) Cumberland Phoenix for a single game on March 13 and a doubleheader on March 14.
