FHU softball hits snag against Blue Raiders

HENDERSON — In the final home series of the 2026 campaign, the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions had a comeback fall just short in game one before falling to the No. 11 Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders, 12-10. In the second game, the Lady Lions had one more hit that the Blue Raiders, but ultimately fell 5-1.

The two teams combined for 32 base hits in the first contest. The Lady Lions (17-17, 7-6 MSC) had a leadoff single in the second inning to help them score two runs. The biggest inning was the fifth, where Alvia Eggleston smashed a grand slam to pull FHU within two runs.

The Blue Raiders (34-5, 10-3 MSC) put up runs in each of the first six innings to take, and keep, the early lead.

The Lady Lions were led by Chloe Carter's 3-for-4 day from the dish, while Alivia Eggleston's two base hits drove in four runs. Myleah Hardy and Karli Quillin each connected for two base hits.

Reagan Lock (2-) tossed three innings in the start.

The Lady Lions saved their fireworks for the last trip through the order. An error was followed by three straight singles loaded the bases, while scoring one unearned run. Eggleston the turned on a pitch that caught too much zone and hit a grand slam to make it a two-run game.

The lone Lady Lion (17-18, 7-7 MSC) came by way of a delayed double-steal attempt. Though one runner was out, Karli Quillin was able to tap home for FHU.

Lindsey Wilson (35-5, 12-3 MSC) were held to five base hits in the second game of the day. While FHU was attempting to come back, a two-run homer kept the game in favor of the visitors.

Karly Quillin had two of FHU's six base hits in the loss.

Katy Gartrell (6-8) stuck out six Blue Raiders in six innings of the start.
