Lions conclude MSC tournament, Massengale All-Conference

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Freed-Hardeman University Lions concluded the Mid-South Conference Championship with a sixth-place finish with a team tally of 907 (+43). For his efforts during the season, Drew Massengale was selected as a second-team All-Conference golfer.

Lane Walton led that charge for FHU, finishing the tournament with 221 (+5) to tie for 11th place. In the first round, he mastered the par-5 holes, carding birdies on three of the four on the course to finish the round at even par. He also finished one under on tha par-4 eighth and the par-3 11th. In the second round, he had back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes, with additional birdies on the 17th and second. In his final round, he had a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole.

Drew Massengale finished two rounds at par, though his second round had the highlight of the tournament where he carded an eagle on the par-5 second hole. Throughout the tournament, Massengale finished the par-5 fifth hole with a birdie, while carding birdie on the par-4 fourth and 17th holes twice. His 11 birdies and one eagle helped him shoot 222 (+6) to finish in 15th place.

With 231 (+15), Lucas Gupton finished in 26th place. He had a fantastic first round, finishing with three birdies and 11 pars. In the second round, he carded birdies on the par-5 fifth and 14th holes before wrapping up the tournament with third-round birdies on the 14th and 17th holes.

Ending in 28th place with 233 (+17), Carson Nau's three first-round birdies came in back-to-back-to back fashion on the 18th, first, and second holes. In the second round, he added one more birdie to his tally to finish four holes under par. In the third round, he carded birdies on the 12th and 14th holes.

Ben Sebilian competed in the first and third rounds, carding a birdie on the par-3 seventh hole in the first round. Returning for the third round, he sank a birdie on the par-5 14th hole. 

His substitute for the second round, Chad Joyner, had a birdie on the par-5 second hole.

Based on the Clippd rankings, the top seven-ranked golfers in the league earn first-team all-conference nods, while the next seven make the second team. After 24 rounds, Drew Massengale's 74.4 average helped him earn a spot on the second team. Had had one top-10 finish with his best round coming at the Music City Fall Collegiate where he shot 69 (-3).
