WEST POINT, Miss. — After the second event of the spring season was too cold to finish, the Freed-Hardeman University Lions finished 54 holes at the Blue Mountain Christian Spring Classic. Shooting a three-round 945 (+81), the Lions finished in eighth place.
Drew Massengale led the Lions on the course, shooting a three-round 231 (+15). In his first round, he carded a birdie on the par-4 18th hole while earning par 12 times. In his second time through the course, he had a pair of par-4 birdies before shooting his best round on his final 18. Three birdies and 11 pars helped him finish strong to tie for 19th place.
Behind him was
Carson Nau's 238 (+22) tournament. Nau had a birdie on the par-4 10th hole in the first round before finishing his second round with a birdie on the par-3 11th. Like most of the other Lions, Nau saved his best for last where his par-5 17th-hole birdie was complimented by 12 pars to land with a share of 40th place.
Lucas Gupton completed three rounds with 239 (+23). He would card a pair of birdies in the first round before finishing the third round with a birdie on the par-5 seventh hole. By the end of the tournament, Gupton finished in a tie for 45th place.
With back-to-back birdies in the first round,
Gabe Webb's aggregate was 242 (+26). That par of holes under par were his only ones, though staying close to par helped him finish in a tie for 52nd place.
Lane Walton's first round was his best one, carding a birdie on the par-4 third hole. By the time he finished his tournament, his 246 (+30) was good enough for 62nd place.
The individual golfers fared well with
Cameron Long,
Ben Sebilian, and
Daniel Whitman combining for eight birdies.
